Visit with Aunt Mandy

Aunt Mandy came up for a visit last weekend.  She got to see some of Cora Leigh's new tricks.  She has started playing with her bottom lip while talking to make a really fun sound.  Aunt Mandy got a really good video that I will post later when I get it.  Cora also got to try pears for the first time Thursday night.  Mandy had just arrived, and although Cora Leigh definitely liked her pears, she was more interested in figuring out who that strange lady was.  You'll see in the video that she hardly takes her eyes off Mandy who was sitting to her right.

Here are some other pictures from the weekend:

Cora Leigh also started clapping over the weekend which is just adorable!!

Sunday morning was really special because our friend Amy was baptized.  We went out to celebrate afterward and had a delicious lunch at The Regatta.

Cora also tried carrots for the first time that afternoon.  She really likes them!

Crazy weekend!

We had a crazy end of the week and weekend last week, so I'm a bit behind on my blogging! It's Wednesday, and I am just now caught up from the weekend. Cora tried green beans for the first time last week. She seemed to like them okay, but she definitely did better with them when they were heated up! Here's a video of the experience.

We celebrated Cora Leigh's 7-month birthday on Friday! We had to go out and do some grocery shopping that evening, and our garage door broke, so that was fun... I did get some cute pictures of Cora though. Oh, and there's one of she and her daddy cuddling. Definitely one of my favorites!

Saturday, Jeremy had an ACLS class all day long, so it was just me and Cora hanging out at home.  We had to be at the florist at 9:30 that morning to pick up a flower for a bridal shower I was helping with on Sunday.  Then we had to be home by 10:00 because the garage door repair man was coming between 10 & 12.  We got our garage door fixed without too much trouble, and then it was time for Cora's bath.  We had been having some problems with cradle cap and had been using a mixture of baby shampoo and Selsun Blue and a comb to try and get the scales off of her scalp.  It hadn't been very successful, so I looked it up in one of our baby books and it suggested using vasoline.  It said to massage the scalp with the vasoline and the scales should come off, then to shampoo the vasoline out of the hair.  SO, a simple scalp massage did nothing with the vasoline, then I couldn't get the vasoline out of her hair!!  I washed her hair with a number of different baby shampoos - probably 6 or 7 times total - and it was still just coated in vasoline.  She was getting sleepy and started yelling at me and getting cranky, so I got the poor thing out of the tub, and boy did we have a mess!  I sat down with Cora and got her to go to sleep in my arms while I sat there and picked the scales off her scalp.  The vasoline really did help loosen them...  Jeremy called me on his lunch break in the meantime, and I had him look up ways to get vasoline out of hair.  I ended up using baby oil to get the vasoline out, which did work, but then her hair was really oily.  We had a surprise baby shower to get to, so I just had to take her out oily hair and all!  That evening, Jeremy and I fed her prunes for the first time to try and help her digestive system get on track.  It was her first fruit, and she really liked it!  Here's a video from the experience and some neat pictures of what her hair would do with all that oil in it.  :)

One last picture of Cora giving Hazel some love! ...or at least trying to...

Trip to Pigeon Forge

Last Friday, I got a call from my dad and he asked if we would like to meet he and my mom in Pigeon Forge for the weekend.  Oddly enough, Jeremy and I had nothing going on this weekend and he was even going to get off a couple of hours early Friday afternoon!  So, we made some last minute arrangements for the dog, packed up, and headed to Tennessee for the weekend.  We had such beautiful weather!  We had a really good visit with my parents - we went shopping, played some disc golf, and ate some good food.  It was our first time traveling with Cora when we weren't going to one of our parents' houses, and we felt like the trip was a total success!  Of course, the weekend went by entirely too fast, as they frequently do.  We were unfortunate enough to get stuck in traffic on the way home.  It took us 3 hours to get from Pigeon Forge to Knoxville, so that was incredibly frustrating.  We got stuck in another traffic backup in Kentucky, and our trip home ended up taking us 6 hours!  We are so lucky that Cora Leigh slept for about half of that, and she was so good all the time she was awake.  Poor thing was in her carrier so much that day.  When we finally got home, we put her in her jumperoo and she jumped like crazy!  I'm sure it felt good to stretch her legs.  Here are some of the pictures from our trip.

Cora got to try sweet potatoes for the first time in our hotel room

Here's a video of the experience

Here are some pictures of our disc golf trip. Dad actually won by 4 strokes! Jeremy always wins, so this was a pretty big deal. :) I normally have a solid next to last place finish, but I finished dead last this game. Not a good day for Jeremy and I, but we still enjoyed it. Mom and I couldn't play the last hole because it was not stroller friendly. I am not exaggerating when I say it went straight down a hill! We were kind of afraid that the guys might end up rolling down the hill, but they made it successfully.

Jeremy had a little too much forward momentum on this one. He had a great throw but ended up off the end of the tee box and on the ground. Mom and Dad were laughing hysterically, but I managed to keep my composure until after I was able to ask him if he was okay. :)

Got myself into quite a pickle.

Jeremy and Dad walking to the bathroom together. We were making fun of them, so Jeremy started skipping to the bathroom. Sure wish I could have gotten a video of that!! :)

Here we are waiting to eat at The Old Mill. We got in 5 minutes before they stopped serving lunch! It was delicious.

Cora's new favorite toy is the hose from my dad's c-pap machine. She had a ball!

Squash

We decided this week to try a sweeter vegetable, so Cora got her first taste of squash on Wednesday.  It's so fun to watch her face when she first tastes something new!  She didn't seem to fond of it at first, but as she kept eating, she really seemed to like it.  She ate it even better today!  Looking forward to carrots or sweet potatoes this weekend.  :)

Here's a picture of our happy baby with squash on her face

Here's Cora playing in her swing.  We sat it upright and put on the toy bar.  She seemed to enjoy it.  It's like a new swing!

Here's a video of Cora trying the squash for the first time

Busy Easter Weekend

We had a fun but busy Easter weekend.  We began the fun on Friday evening by having our friends, Courtney and Amy, over for dinner and games.  As it turns out, we also got to celebrate the news that Courtney got a full-time teaching job at Western Kentucky University next year!  We had a scrumptious hot dog/smoked turkey sausage dog dinner and then took advantage of the beautiful weather and played some cornhole!  Here's Cora sitting on her blanket outside enjoying the fresh air.

Here are some pics of us showing our cornhole skills. Jeremy and I won, but it was a really close game!

Here's a video of Courtney making Cora Leigh laugh

Saturday, we began the day with a rehearsal at church. Here's a picture of Cora napping that afternoon.

We began veggies Saturday afternoon and started with peas. Here's a video of Cora's first encounter with the peas and a couple of pics to follow.

Saturday evening, we went to Andy and Dana Waldroup's for a Final Four party. Though none of us really had any particular interest in the game, we really enjoyed the company! We enjoyed watching the kiddos play. Scott and Kristen Talley's little girl, Kayla, will be 2 this summer. She was a hoot! She loved it when Dana would help her do a somersault, and eventually she did it on her own for the first time. She would also periodically go up to Scott and Kristen and say, "I'm funny." :) Joshua, who just turned 1 year old, was also a lot of fun to watch as he carried around his ball. It was really neat to see the differences since all the kids were at different stages. Here are a couple of pics of playtime.

We began our Easter Sunday a little earlier than usual. We had two services at church and had to play for both. We were scared to dress Cora too early, so she got to sit in her bathrobe while we finished getting ready.

Cora Leigh looked adorable in her Easter dress. We had bought the dress and hat at a second hand store. We didn't realize at the time that the dress was size 6-12 months and the matching hat was 18-24 months. Cora has a big head, but not that big!

Here's a picture of Cora and her daddy after church Sunday morning. We had to be back at church at 5:30 that evening and play for the evening service. Poor Cora was just exhausted by the end of the day! Jeremy and I have decided that we're going to have to limit ourselves a little more. It's just too hard on our baby girl! Luckily, we were able to relax and recuperate today.

We did have a nice brief visit with my Uncle Don and his wife Lynn today. They live in Omaha, so we don't get to see them very often at all! They had been in Chattanooga to visit our family over the weekend, so they decided to go a little out of their way to come by today to visit with Cora and me. We had a really good visit, and they seemed to really enjoy Cora Leigh! Cora kept reaching for Uncle Don's hat, so he decided he would put it on her...said we wouldn't tell her daddy. :)

Lynn had Cora absolutely cracking up! Too bad she lost some of her peas on her later. :)
